On the look-out for a new armchair or lamp?
England At Home is a lovely boutique shop that sells furniture and home accessories that wouldn't look out of place in Elle Decoration or Living Etc. As well as a small assortment of leather and wool chairs and loungers, they sell swish side-tables, lampshades, chandeliers and mirrors. If you're after something unique as a gift, they also have buddha statues and cool cushions embroidered with everything from Union Jack flag to burlesque girls in kitty heels and underwear.
If you plan to go soon, could you pick me up two of the latter?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Angela B.Hastings, Storbritannia49958117923. apr. 2010
There's no denying that the items they sell in this store have sex appeal. If you want some feature or statement chairs or dining room set then this is the place you might want to visit but remember, style doesn't come cheap. The classic perspex dining chairs are a whopping £150 each which is a lot of dosh for someone who only barely has a Habitat budget at the best of times.
We ordered 3 black minimal bar stools from here for the breakfast counter and they were much more reasonable at £50 a pop. Delivery was only £20 and we didn't have to wait even half as long as the 6 weeks we first anticipated. That being said, this is a place I prefer to come to when the sales are on.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-bruker (Alice_…)Brighton, Storbritannia174223697. apr. 2010
Located less than a stone's throw from the other England at Home shop, this one is just a little more reserved. Focusing more on soft furnishings, furniture and accessories like photo frames, the title 'England at Home' is much more fitting to this store.
They sell the most fabulous cushions in original designs: graffiti-style patterns, sketched women's faces, butterflies, flowers and even Margaret Thatcher. But, at over £40 a pop, you'd have to have some serious cash to splash if you wanted a few of these to scatter over your sofa.
I also love their chunky mango wood letters. As a lover of words and quotations, these greatly appeal to my taste. Again though, at £12.99 each, you're looking at some rather expensive interior decoration. Their smaller, multicoloured letters (at £4.99 each) are much more suited to my price range.
In true quirky England at Home style though, their mix of old-fashioned, retro and contemporary furniture is peppered with little bowls containing things like BBQ-style worm crisps. Yup, actual edible, flavoured worms. Exactly what every English home needs, eh?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sophie W.Brighton, Storbritannia1232633217. des. 2009
In keeping with their flagship shop around the corner (which sells home ware and gifts), England At Home Furniture sells classy, elegant pieces. Style is obviously paramount and the pieces of furniture are unique and eye-catching. There's not a DFS-style three-piece suite in site. Whilst everything is far more aesthetically pleasing than at your average furniture shop, it does unfortunately come at a price. This place is clearly aimed at fashion-conscious well-to-do double income couples- who else can spend £799 on an arm chair? Yes, it's beautiful in all its supple leathery glory, but that's a lot of money. I fell in love with a distressed painted commode, but again at £599, it was a little out of my price range. I guess I'll just have to wait until I 'grow up'!!
There are smaller home decor items, such as lamps, cushions and mirrors and these are more affordable, though still quite pricey, when compared to what you can find in the North Laines. Still, there are some nice gift ideas. In summary, England at Home is a lovely, higher-end furniture store. They sell the kind of furniture that I want to own, but hope to stumble across secondhand!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype-bruker (thesus…)Crediton, Storbritannia5227914824. mars 2010
Bought a fantastic retro leather chair here today. It cost 2/3 of what the big stores are banging them out at. The staff were very helpful and made it their business to save me a delivery charge by getting it into the back of my car after some considerable effort. All of this was done in the rain! Thanks guys. Only trouble is I can't get it out the car now!!!!

My wife had been looking for something different in home furnishings. Since we seem to be always in Ship St. eating it was no surprise to discover this little gem. Cushions, (bane of my life), were within the budget, which meant we had a complete change at home. This went on to perhaps we ought to change the carpet and then to the walls could do with a lick of paint !!!
All this because of a wonderful, helpful shop as this one. Lovely stuff in there, but can stretch the wallet!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
