Saturdays about 11am to 2pm (rain or shine).

Great produce, friendly and regular market stalls.

      Highlights are:

      Gilcombe farm meats
      Portland scallop company
      Weanie beans
      & Flour power bakers.

Really, really, really good food, and great people.

      Bring a big bag!

This is a really great local market for local people. You'll have no trouble here.

What I love about this market is that it's constantly changing.. some weeks there is a guy making fresh sushi, the next there will be French people serving up crepes that smell.. well, ridiculous, frankly. It's like you're by the Seine, not the Thames.

I love the stall around the back that sells homemade sauces, chutneys and jams. Again, it's not there every week, but in a way that's good, or else jam and mustard is all I'd eat.

Last week, I had the best brownie I've ever tasted, meaning I'm going to have to go to the gym for one extra session this week so I don't feel too guilty when I go back this Saturday.

The two downers to this place are:

      1. Because of the neighbourghood, and owing to the nature of the produce, it is quite pricey. I don't mind supporting local farmers, but you can end up spending more than you intend.
      2. There isn't as much fruit and veg as I'd like ideally. I often go with a list of veggies that I want, only to be leave with just half of them.

As Molly K says, it's not somewhere I'd recommend to people who have to travel, but it is worth a look when you're in the area, if only for the heavenly brownies.

Barnes Farmers' Market is a great place to savour decent food and see an interesting snapshot of Barnes life.

The food on sale is mostly ready to eat. There's fruit and veg, bread, plenty of cakes, sausages being freshly grilled and pizzas freshly baked. There's also a fresh fish stall. One particularly notable stall is one selling Swedish produce, catering not just for the large Swedish community in Barnes, but also many a curious Brit.

Contrary to what Phil R reported in 2009, Barnes Farmers' Market seems to have settled now in terms of which stalls are present: I've been going almost every Saturday now for the last few months and haven't noticed much change in the stalls over that period.

This being Barnes, the quality of the produce is generally high. Maybe the odd dud here and there, but on the whole, amongst the best of the food markets I frequent in London. The crowd are Barnes locals: smartly-dressed adults pushing young children around in buggies, typically causing some congestion in the narrower parts of the market.

The only slight downside is the price, which is slightly on the high side. Not too excessive, but when excellent pastries can be obtained from the Parish Bakery about 50 metres away for just 75 pence, one can begin to question whether paying £1.50-£2 for a similar product is worth it. Admittedly this is only the case with the baked goods, but still, it is an issue.

Overall though, this a decent food market with a solid range of different, good quality foods. It's also worth visiting to get a flavour of local life in Barnes.

A nice small farmer's market, but it's no Borough. It's within walking distance for me but I don't think it's worth visiting from afar. Still, they have a good selection of fresh fruit and veg, a couple of bakery stands with yummy looking cakes and breads, and a man who does fresh sushi rolls on-site! Grab some juicy apples and bread and cheese and have a picnic by the pond across the street on a Saturday afternoon.

I stumbled across this market shortly after moving into the area, oh boy what a find! It's not amazing, I wouldn't travel a long way to visit it but for people already in the area it's fab. There are stalls selling freshly made french meals, fresh pasta, Italian olive oil, meat, fish, cakes, bread and all sorts. It's a really nice place to drop in on a Saturday.

Every Saturday Barnes Farmer's Market allows you the opportunity to stock up on some nice, fresh fruit and veg. There are also olives stands, cheese stands, bread stands and meat stands. The prices are comparatively low for the goodness of the product. Not exactly huge, but large enough to provide a shopper with some choice.

A smallish, but goodie packed farmers market. Fabulous meat and fish stalls, cakes and pastries, cheeses, olives, fruit and veg. It is expensive, but that doesn't deter the customers who come in their droves. Lovely in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
